Oud fat extraction | Almohit Company for oud and Oud fat
Oud fat is extracted from oud wood through various stages, as shown below, and often the lowest quality oud wood is used, because premium oud wood is very expensive and the price of fat will be fanciful, and this is why mostly less-quality wood is used.
The stages of manufacturing oud fat (extracting oud fat)
1- Cleaning and cutting stage
The lower quality oud wood is cut, as is the rest of the incense oud
The peels adhered to the oud wood are used, as the appropriate pieces are first purified to extract the oud fat and clean them with special tools to isolate the unwanted parts.
2- Grinding stage or preparation stage
At this stage, you take the results of the previous step then grind it well using a natural machine called (pestle), where the oud wood is cut into very small parts and then converted into crumbs, by hand or by grinding manually or using electric mills until it turns into powder or into very small pieces according to the way the product.
3- The fermentation stage
After that the powder or the small pieces extracted from the previous step are soaked in water in large drums and left for a period of 5 days to a year or more according to the technique of the extraction, and this period is called the fermentation period, then preparing the mixture for the next step (distillation)
4- Distillation stage:
At this stage, the oud powder or the cut of the soaked oud are placed in a special distillation container, which is called the distillation pot, where every kilogram of oud is placed with nine kilos of water, and it is heated for up to 7 continuous months, the fire never stops.
It is preferable to heat it over firewood to give a better flavor to the oud fat, as the long heating period results in the evaporation of water with oud fat molecules through a tube connected to a cold tank called "condensed", It is attached to a small bowl to distill the water mixed with the oud fat, then the water settles to the bottom of the bowl and the oud fat floats over the water, then oud fat is called the first pick,
Then the water from which the oud fat (first pick) is filtered is returned to another tool called the "syringe" so that the oud fat is extracted (second pick), and so on until the oud is completely cleared, and often this stage consists of four stages so that the oud fat is completely cleared and that result first degree Oud fat , second degree oud fat, third degree oud fat, and fourth degree oud fat
5- Fat collection:
The method of collecting the fat, which is present on the surface of the water resulting from distillation and condensation in the previous stages, where the water that comes out of the condensation tube is first placed in a special container, and the fat usually floats on the surface of the collected water.
Then the pure fat is collected by the palm of the hand, where the palm is placed in contact with the surface of the water, and the oud fat is suspended in the palm of the hand, then the palm of the hand is rubbed in a clean, dry container intended for collecting the pure fat, as the fat flows to the inside of the container when rubing.
6- Drying:
The collected fat is exposed to sunlight for long periods of up to months, so that it is completely dried out of water and only the pure oud fat is left.
