One of the advantages of the oud tree is its strong ability to absorb a large amount of water. Some oud dealers’ resort to moisturizing the wood of oud, where it is soaked in water and diluted a little so that moisture remains inside, thus increasing the weight of the wood, and also to give it a pleasant aroma. As there are other types of ouds that are highly absorbent to water to a large extent, so that you do not feel the moisture when you touch the pieces of the oud, even though the percentage of humidity may sometimes reach 30% of its weight. This method of cheating in the oud is common and widespread, and this method may be seen sometimes, especially if the oud is newly imported. CHEATING IN THE FAT OF OUD

1- Mixing specific types with specific proportions of oud fat. Finally, the name of the most expensive and best type is given.

2- Mixing the cotton oil and the lute oil to increase the quantity.

3- Adding dissolved musk in cotton or almond oil to stabilize the smell for long periods of time, and this reduces the concentration of oud.

4- Adding the melted oud powder to the oud oil, so that it is heavier and thicker.

5- Adding the oils without smell to the oud to increase the quantity without affecting the smell.

6- Sprinkling oud wood with water to increase its weight and increase its price.

7- Painting the oud with black or dark brown grease, while  originally the oud is of a bad kind ... To know if the oud is an original oud or not , It is prefered to break the oud and look at it from the inside part. If there is a difference between the color inside and outside, this means that this oud is a fake and not original.

8- The wood is cooked with a sticky substance until it vaporizes and interferes with the wood, and then it is dried and cleaned to be similar to the original stick.
